“Yes! I have a story about the Eyes of the Enchanted Forest.“
Olaf: Ummm, Anna? Is this a scary story?
Anna: No, Olaf. Don’t worry. It’s more mysterious than scary.
Olaf: Psshhh, who’s worried? I’m not worried. I was just asking for Sven.
Anna: Well one day, long ago, a young girl was travelling to the Enchanted Forest on her way to visit her sister.
Olaf: Hmmm, was it before the forest had the bouncy mist, or after?
Anna: Before.
Olaf: Gotcha. Carry on.
Anna: So the girl walking through the woods, just as the sun was setting. She could almost see the stars and wanted to hurry along before it got too dark.
Olaf: Did she made it?
Anna: No. She got lost because she stopped to pick some flowers for her sister.
Olaf: Aww, that’s so nice.
Anna: Isn’t it? Unfortunately, after she got the flowers, she couldn’t remember which path was the right path. So, she sat on the forest floor and thought and thought. Then, she had an idea.
Olaf: That she shouldn’t have entered the forest in the first place and it was a really big mistake and she’ll just probably give up and stay there forever?
Anna: Um, no, but good guess! She remembered a helpful tip her mother gave her before she set off. That if she got lost, she could ask the Enchanted Forest itself for help. So, that’s just what she did.
She waited and waited. And then, she saw a bunch of huge, glowing, yellow eyes staring down at her.
Olaf: I’ve seen those eyes!
Anna: You have?
Olaf: I think so? They were all roarrr, growl! We’re staring at you and possibly judging you!
Anna: Oh, Olaf, you must’ve been so scared!
Olaf: Humpf! What? Me? No… I mean when I was little, but I’m older now, more mature. One might even say: wiser.
Anna: Well, the girl in our story was terrified.
Olaf: Oh no! She was?
Anna: Uhuh. She saw the eyes staring down at her, looming and glowing! And she called to the creatures of the forest, imploring their help in finding her way to her sister!
Anna: Suddenly, all the eyes turned and looked toward a path! The girls stood up shaking with fear! And ran for the path! As soon as she came to a fork in the road, the eyes appeared again, and stared down the path she should take.
Anna: Over and over, the eyes continued to follow her. They were leading her somewhere!
Olaf: Where?! Where?! The suspense is driving me crazy! I mean, Sven, it’s driving Sven crazy.
Anna: Well, the girl ran and ran, and the eyes kept watching and guiding her. Finally, she burst through the trees! And could see her sister’s village in the distance. She thanked the Enchanted Forest and its creatures for the help and guidance she received. Then, she waved goodbye and skipped down to the village. The eyes winked and disappeared. Legend says that they still wait in the woods for the next lost traveller so they can guide them home too.
Olaf: Wow! So they weren’t scary monster eyes, just friendly creatures with terrifying eyes?
Anna: Yup. Sometimes things look scarier than they actually are.
Olaf: Hmm. Maybe I should go find those eyes for real this time!
Anna: Or… we can stay here, not get lost in the dark forest, and enjoy more cocoa!
Olaf: Yeah, that’s probably a better plan.
